Urban Cabin Powder Room Refresh
We redid the main living area of this urban cabin a couple years ago (refresh your memory here), so we were happy when our clients asked us to come back and update their powder room . . . which just might be the oddest, most awkwardly laid-out little room ever. Nevertheless, we persisted!
We essentially gutted it, pulling out the paneling and the old vanity and keeping only the tub. To solve for the fact that you could neither open a door into the bathroom nor outside of it due to space constraints, we built a sturdy sliding barn door to maintain privacy in style. We added wainscoting and painted it a gorgeous, rich blue.
A new vanity offers plenty of storage, which is helpful for our client who gets herself ready there in the mornings. A rustic-chic light fixture, a simple round mirror, and a couple happy little plants round out this side of the room.
We put on our problem-solving hats again when it came to an awkward vent that juts out of the wall and couldn’t be moved anywhere else. If you can’t change it, embrace it — specifically, with a gallery wall. Gina painted the precious bird (bless her heart) and we found all the other flora and fauna art at local source, Spicher & Co; the round plate came from Etsy.
Our clients said they wanted the art to reflect the type of nature you’d see around their cabin and the surrounding lands, so bunnies, barn owls, and butterflies now grace their powder room as a nod to their rustic neighborhood.
We kept the vintage charm of this tub, while giving her new life by refinishing it and adding new hardware. Then we put down hex marble-looking porcelain tile, added a colorful rug, and changed out the light above the tub.
Once odd and bland, this little room now shines with beauty and personality, full of art and life.
