The Home Where Nothing Boring Happens

This family’s home was farmhouse-style builder-grade. It had good bones, but needed an infusion of pattern, color, and texture to better reflect the fun people who live here. The entryway sits opposite the dining room, so we chose something eye-catching for when you walked in the house and sat in the adjacent room. This bold botanical wallpaper gives distinct tree-of-life vibes and sends the message that nothing boring is happening here.

We also painted the front door green and added new rattan overhead light fixtures. Because the wallpaper is so colorful, we chose a neutral wood console with space underneath for baskets that provide a stylish spot to contain dog leashes and shoes. This fantastic mirror allows for last-minute wardrobe checks and reflects lots of light, pattern, and color from the dining room.

Speaking of the dining room, to balance all of the lines from the wall paneling, we brought in a lot of curves — from the huge oval table to the barrel-backed host chairs and classic wishbone side chairs, the overall effect is like a very stylish hug. We kept the walls white since the colorful entryway is within sight of this room, and instead focused on bringing a warm orange to the ceiling, which positively glows. The blue-and-green–patterned curtains and the multicolored rug add more visual interest, as does the artwork and sexy white-glass-and-gold pendant lights.

Retiling the fireplace face with abstract cement tile and painting the mantle and built-in cabinets a rich blue create a custom look to the focal point of the living room. The family wanted to keep their comfy leather sofa, and since it fit the space nicely and was in great condition, we moved our focus to adding a new chair, rug, pillows, art, lighting, and patterned window treatments to finish the space.

We were excited to get our hands on this fabulous dining nook with its walls of windows that let in tons of natural light and frame the beautiful colors outside. We anchored the space with a custom-made table that uses a slab of wood they selected, re-covered a huge bench with indestructible Crypton fabric in a fun print, and brought in buttery-soft and chic leather chairs to complete this very cool eating area. The window treatments echo the pattern in the living room, and the pendant light casts a lovely glow on family dinners and game nights with friends.
